Fate vs. free will or somewhere in between????

Which do you believe?

Is your life totally planned out for us, totally scripted - Fate? Or

Is our life a blank canvas, ours to paint and create on based on our whim or decision? Or

Are we somewhere in between?    Is it that we are put in this time, this life, this body in order to learn a certain lesson.  To improve our spiritual being. If we choose not to learn and incorporate the lesson into our divine being, then we get another, more painful chance.  If we still don't learn it, we get another even more painful chance to learn, and so on. You may pass into another life and time,  more conducive to learning the lesson.  But you WILL learn it or you will continue in this cycle.  We all have areas for improvement in our spiritual being and we cannot progress from this existence to the next until we make the improvements.

Which is it?

I don't know, but I kind of like the last.  I also like the idea that there are other souls that we travel with or meet up with in each new life who are there to help us learn and who we can help learn. We kind of need each other.
