Is it because we have president who is bi racial that we are seeing more and more racially based remarks and actions? And no one is publicly acknowledging it or speaking out against it..!!!!
It certainly has become a topic of conversation with my boyfriend and me in the last 2 months. He is black and I am white and in the past 2 and a half years racism has come up maybe 3 times. But in the recent weeks we have had people make bigoted (sp) remarks that were directed toward us or him. This is a first for me. and for the two of us as a couple. It is so disheartening to me, as, I like to think the best of people and that people judge each other regardless of race, color, background. Rich calls it the ostrich syndrome. lol. He iis used to it. He has lived this all his life, from being only allowed to sit in the balcony at the movie theater to having to drink from a "colored" water fountain. So this is nothing new to him. So sad. My heart breaks for him.
Hearing the venom, hatred and evil that is being spewed and actions encouraged by the right wing conservatives, such as entertainer Rush Limbaugh and his group, are disgusting. To think anyone would even take him seriously and follow through on his rhetoric is even more disgusting and SCARY. In addition, why do the broadcast companies tolerate it... oh yeah, I forgot $$$$$$. Sickening.
From asking for THEIR country back to saying Obama should not be president because he may not have a U.S birth certificate? Come on people. Get a life. Accept that the majority of our citizens chose a leader that some of you may not agree with. You might just learn something if you are quiet, quit complaining and listen a little.
I can't say that I am happy at the results that Obama has produced so far, but I accept that I don't know how to do the job so I won't criticize.
What concerns me is that the racial bigotry against blacks is going to do nothing but continue to escalate. If Obama stays in office for another term what we have seen so far will continue to get worse and worse. On the other hand, if he leaves office after the first term, the conservatives will just be fired up, with an "I told you so" "It's about time you go out of here" "Now let us fix all that you screwed up in our country" attitude which could result in retribution based racist activity.
I don't know the answer.
When will people treat each other with kindness, respect and caring regardless of color, race, etc.?
It saddens me to see these horrible hateful things happening around us....still.
